Group Consultation: Sex Therapy Skills for Trauma Therapists

A cohort model meeting monthly from September 2026 through January 2027.

Consultation for trauma-focused therapists who want to build confidence and clinical skill in addressing sexuality, gender, intimacy, and sexual health with their clients. Whether you’re unsure how to open these conversations, want an assessment framework, or need support navigating complex clients, I help with  trauma-specific integration of sex therapy. My approach centers belonging, social justice, and curiosity for how the self-of-the-therapist influences the therapeutic relationship.

This dual expertise means I understand how past experiences can impact current intimacy, and I’m equipped to navigate both with care and skill. In merging trauma and sex therapy, the work is always collaborative and consent-based.

Here’s the big secret: WE ACTUALLY TALK ABOUT SEX and all things SEXUAL! I have training in talking about it, asking questions, supporting curiosity about wants, desires, arousal, body parts, and so much more.

Just like all psychotherapy, sessions are confidential, providing a safe enough container for your most vulnerable explorations.

This is a very common experience, and there is no rush even in consultation! We get to explore the discomfort in ways that are not too uncomfortable. The goal is to find where that discomfort about s-e-x is getting in your way within your therapist role.

It’s also where my experience providing care for trauma and dissociation steps in: rushing through does not make you a better therapist faster. In fact, the first time we meet I’ll introduce a tool on consent that I use with every one of my clients and when teaching graduate students, and we’ll practice using it together to have a shared framework to continuously check in on your comfort levels.

It’s possible we’ll identify an edge that you can bring to your own therapist for growth!

Sex therapy does not involve sexual activity in session (don’t worry, you aren’t the first to wonder).

Sex therapy does involve strategizing approaches for practicing sexual activities outside of sessions.

It can also focus on a whole range of topics, including gender, sexuality, and learning strategies for communication.

At each 90-minute group:

This can be vulnerable content, so it’s important to settle in and create containment together.

I’ll present on a topic linking trauma and sex therapy. At our first meeting together it will focus on frameworks of consent. Subsequent topics will be selected based on themes presenting in our group and by your request.

The bulk of our time focuses on your clinical needs. This can include consulting on a specific client or:

  • Exploring how sexuality, gender, and sexual preferences relate to dissociation and internal systems.
    • For example, how do we support a client with an internal part who has a gender or sexual preference different that differs?
  • Examining our own positionalities and biases
  • Practicing sex-specific interventions.

Typically I approach feedback through having group members share their insights and thoughts first, then I’ll offer my perspectives. This parallels my therapeutic approaches for encouraging collaboration and addressing power differentials.
